Greek Olympics
Some of our modern Olympics come from the Greek Olympics. The Olympics in ancient greece were of course held every four years much like ours, and were always held in Olympia. They were held in honor of Zeus, and were basically the most important thing ever and very popular thing in ancient greece. Of course there were wars and what not going on at that time, but when the Olympics came along, they would fortunately stop the fighting and call a truce so that the competitors could go compete and of course the others to go watch even. Most of the spectators even slept in tents or out in the open when the Olympics were going on, talk about committed fans. The Olympics lasted for five days, and all the people that did crimes or just did bad things, they excluded them from the games, smart idea. Unfortunately for the women, only the men could be in the Olympics. There were a total of seven events, and the prizes for winning the competition were super simple, they included, front row seats at festivals or even free meals for life, and the winner even had the right to put up a statue of himself in Olympia. If you got second or third, you didn't get any prize.
